Between The Sheets: All Kinds Of Hard (14)

Anyone looking at her from afar might not be able to tell of her distress because she covered it all up with great-looking makeup and a nice outfit but within her, Anita was a mile away from losing her cool.
She couldn’t focus on anything for too long and the work in front of her was piling up. All because of Tolu. She blamed herself for the umpteenth time. Why couldn’t she just accept that night? Why did she do that? Why did she always have to lie, why did she have to mask her emotions, why did she say the opposite of what she was feeling all the time?

She took a deep breath but it wasn’t working. She was so disturbed.  She picked up her phone, scrolled down to ‘Tee’ and attempted to dial his number but she couldn’t find the courage to. She thought about how she had gone driven by his office 3 nights in a row. She will drive close by and stop but she never had the courage to drive in or to call him up. ‘Ni, it’s been one week. That ends tonight.‘ She knew she was missing him and she wanted to see him but could she find the courage to?

Meanwhile, the very object of her thoughts was in his own office thinking of another woman. Tolu smiled to himself, realized how excited he was and smiled again. He had a few tricks up his sleeve today and he couldn’t wait for them to start coming up. Did Amaka not say that he didn’t care for her? Wait till she saw everything that he had planned.

He was going all out and he had only one thing on his mind which was success. Again, he was smiling. He had forgotten the thrill of chasing a woman and the feeling that came with it. Yes, this was a tricky situation because she was his employee and all but he was ready. He nodded. It was time to try and go for it and he was ready to have something or someone real in his life…

Amaka jumped at the sound of the door yet again. As soon as she saw the person behind the door, she breathed out. It wasn’t Tolu. For the past few days, she had been avoiding him like a plague and doing the most unbelievable things. She covered her face in embarrassment just thinking about it. The other day, she had just entered into the reception when she heard his voice coming closer. She ran into the kitchen and stayed in there for about ten minutes. It was so awkward just standing there pretending to be busy with her phone when the other guys were either having tea or eating breakfast.

What about yesterday, when he has entered the design room… she had turned her chair around and had pretended to be so fascinated with the vase of flowers behind her work station. Flowers! Gosh, what was he thinking of her now? As soon as the thought came into her head, she cleared it. ‘No! It doesn’t matter what he thinks of me. I’m not in that place anymore!‘ she thought. With that, she stood up and made her way to Cyril’s space at the far end of the room. No more thoughts of him, Amaka.

She met Cyril with his back to her and his hands on his waist looking intently at something. His sleeves were rolled up and the shirt was tight. He looked good. When did Cyril begin to look this good, she wondered. ‘Cyril? Cyril!, she called. With that, he turned around. ‘Hi, babe, Sorry. I was just looking at this club design one more time. I need to go through it finally before sending it out. Can you check it out?‘ Amaka moved forward and stood beside him. ‘Cyril. It’s great. I love the combination and I like how you used…’ ‘Amaka! Amaka! You have a delivery.‘ Amaka frowned and looked at Cyril ‘Did she say delivery?’ Just then, Cyril tapped her and she turned around. One of the security guys had a carton of what looked like cake and the other had flowers and what looked like chocolates.

They stopped when they got to her ‘Miss Amana? This was delivered for you.‘ Amaka frowned in confusion ‘Me? No, it can’t be for me. It must be…’ They handed her the note and it said in bold letters ‘FOR AMAKA.’ Amaka frowned and opened the carton of cake. It said ‘I won’t tell your secrets… Talk to me.’ As soon as she saw it, she could barely hold back the big grin on her face. What was he doing? Cyril was saying ‘Oga, are you sure…’ but she tapped him ‘Cyril, please help me move this to my desk.’ Cyril said ‘But you…’ She smiled ‘It’s for me.’ so she collected the flowers and chocolates and Cyril collected the cake. She asked the guys to meet her in the kitchen for their own portion during lunch time and they left.

Amaka neatly arranged the stuff on her desk. She was trying so hard to contain her smile because the other guys were watching her but on the inside she wanted to scream and jump and do a little jiggle.
