Between The Sheets: All Kinds Of Hard (21)

Amaka stood just by the church building trying to hide behind the wall.
She had been waiting for Tolu for a few minutes and though she didn’t mind, she definitely didn’t want her position or presence to stir up any sort of attention to her and spoil the reputation that she had built as being a private member who respected herself. Two ladies had already stopped by to ask and show concern and she had managed to avoid their questions tactfully.

She turned around in her bid to make sure that she was safe from any other members when she spotted the pastor far away… slowly making his way toward the building where she was standing. She immediately turned her head around in panic wondering how she would escape this one. Just then, Tolu called up to say that he was outside the building and without a second thought; she walked as fast as she could and she didn’t slow down until she had crossed the church gate.

‘Hi!’ she exclaimed in relief. ‘Wow. Someone sounds so excited to see me,’ Tolu said with his most charming smile. ‘Oh, you have no idea, Tolu. Let’s just say that your timing is perfect.’ ‘Well, I can’t deny that’ he said, to which he received a playful punch. ‘Shall we?’ he asked and she nodded….

Driving in his car, Tolu couldn’t get his eyes off Amaka. There was something about the girl that was just mesmerizing to him. If not, how else could he explain the fact that he was inviting a girl that he had only just met to his private abode that was off-limits… especially to the ladies. Even Anita that meant so much to him had only been to his place twice. Twice! Once when he was too drunk to make a straight choice and the last time when she had cooked them both a great dinner. He quickly shut down those thoughts before his mind would drift to the naked game that accompanied that dinner and the way Ni looked in her apron wearing next to nothing.

Just then, Amaka cleared her throat. ‘I hope my promised lunch is ready and warming itself off in the pot because I’m starving’ she said and Tolu laughed. ‘My word is my bond, babe. Cooked, served and waiting to be devoured.’ Amaka looked at him with great doubt intentionally ‘Hope the used utensils were left unwashed for proper inspection.’ Tolu furrowed his brow for some seconds trying to decipher what she meant and when when he did, he burst out into an uncontrollable stream of laughter. ‘Tolu! Watch the road!’

Amaka exclaimed so somehow, he had to put him together. He had forgotten the part of their conversation where Amaka insisted for an inspection of the various utensils that he had used in cooking, pounding and stirring so she could be sure that he was indeed an honest man.
When he had laughed away to heart’s content to her chagrin, he explained himself ‘In honest truth, I forgot about it… but, you seem to be riding on luck today because I had just finished cooking and dishing out when I noticed that time had passed so the kitchen is probably messed up with the used utensils freshly warm from being tortured on the fire with this very hands. He released the wheel and flashed his hands before her face for brief seconds – a gesture which she didn’t much appreciate. Before anything else, they were approaching his house and Tolu said ‘Welcome to my private cocoon, ma’am.’ just before horning for security to open up…

Amaka was amazed at his house. ‘Wow’, she thought. ‘Who knew he had so much?’ This reaction was just from seeing the exterior… they had yet to enter the house. When he took her in and let her know that he had taken care of decorating every space on his house by himself, Amaka felt herself become even more impressed and gain even more respect for this man. To put it simply, his house looked professionally decorated. Everything made sense and it was all well co-ordinated. The best part was the fact that he had played with dark colors and patterns and somehow, he had struck a remarkable balance that was completely noteworthy. She didn’t say too much but she was sure that he could see how impressed she was with his place and how excited she was too.

For Amaka, the best part of everything was how much attention he paid to detail and what it said about him as a person. The designer in her had come out and she was too busy analyzing the colors, shapes and patterns that she didn’t realize that Tolu was busy making the table and putting things together for their lunch. She was only revived from her thoughts when he stood directly in front of her waving his arms in her face.

‘Earth to Amaka! Wow, you really don’t joke with design.’ Tolu said. Then, as if he got a realization, he asked ‘Is this something that you’ll want to do? I mean, interior design?’ Her instinct was to laugh it off and immediately switch topics but Amaka reminded herself that she was in a better place where she was learning to trust and Tolu was definitely trustworthy.
