Between The Sheets: All Kinds Of Hard (20)

That was not all. He had also planned a little cake unveiling at the restaurant where the waiters brought her a cake and celebrated her.
The cake said ‘First date to many…’ and she had teared up a little. Tolu smiled to himself as he remembered it all. She was so innocent and too honest and that humbled him. It made him want to do more and it made him want to be more for her. He settled into his chair properly wondering if he could make out some time to take her out the next day. He was thinking along the lines of a home-cooked Sunday lunch. Was it too soon?

He didn’t entertain the question for too long before shaking his head. It could never be too soon with Amaka… she was just too innocent. She wasn’t like others who had other agendas while you were dealing with them. With her, her smile was a smile and her tears were real. He didn’t end that thought before he called her up. She picked up on the first ring ‘Hi’ He smiled to himself. So innocent. ‘Hi, Amaka. I would like to invite you here for lunch.’ There was no need to beat about the bush. He preferred to be straight with her. ‘Here?’ he heard her voice shake just slightly. ‘As in… your house?’ ‘Yes… for lunch. I want to cook for you… a nice lunch. Hold up, what’s your favorite meal?’ He knew what to do; changing topics was the fastest way to get her comfortable with the idea.

Before too long, they were talking about different meals and before long, they had settled on one meal that they both enjoyed and he had her laughing hard ‘Tolu, you better not be all mouth. You mean to tell me that you can handle making pounded yam, vegetable soup and pepper soup. Only you?’ ‘Try me’, he said. He knew he had her when she said ‘I’ll text you when I’m done with church tomorrow, Tolu.’ The end of their call brought Ni’s profile picture back to the screen. Again, he scrolled through his call log, paused at her no., thought about dialing it, changed his mind and threw his IPhone onto the couch as he buried himself in his work…

Meanwhile, the object of his unwanted thoughts was miles away at a lunch date with a real life TDH. He was tall, dark and handsome with a body that didn’t quit and a smile that could make any girl swoon yet she could barely hear a word that he was saying because her entire mind was filled with memories of one guy and one guy alone. For the fourth time, he had caught her lost in her thoughts and he had tried to bring her back to the present, to where they were.

Ni looked down at her meal and she couldn’t seem to gain any appetite despite the fact that she was eating her favorite fisherman soup at her best restaurant. What is wrong with me? She asked herself that question a dozen times a day and she couldn’t come up with a reasonable answer every time. For the umpteenth time, she nodded and laughed when she didn’t know what he was saying. All of a sudden, she felt his hand touch her face as he tried to get her to focus on him. ‘You’re not enjoying all this, are you?’ She tried to cover things up ‘Ah, no. I’m… ’ ‘You just smiled and nodded when I told you that I was bis3xual and hoping that we could have a thr33some with another guy.’ She couldn’t even get herself out of that one so she just said ‘I’m sorry.’

He smiled and removed his hand from her face ever so gently ‘A guy or a broken heart?’ Ni sighed and confessed ‘Both’ while trying hard to swallow the hurt that was fast rising. ‘That bad?’ She wiped the tiny tear that had formed in her eye. ‘Worse’, she managed. He reached out and squeezed her left hand. ‘I would ask you to share it but you’ll probably break down.’ She nodded in gratitude. They sat that way for a while before he suddenly piped up ‘Do you know what you need?’ Ni looked at him in confusion ‘Adrenaline.’ Suddenly, he pulled her hand as if he could pull her through the table. ‘Let’s go workout together… more boxing than anything else.’ Ni looked at him like he was mad. ‘What?’ he asked. She laughed amidst her tears. ‘I’m wearing a bandage dress with six-inch heels.’ He laughed. ‘Just that? We’ll get some gear for you at the store.’ Without saying anything else to her, he called the waiter and asked for them to pack up their meals to go and before Ni knew it, they were heading out to find her relief…

Over and over again, Amaka tried on different outfits. She looked at the time. She had been at it for some minutes yet she hadn’t come to a conclusion. ‘Ahhh.’ She screamed as she collapsed unto her bed, She needed to find a perfect outfit that could work for church and work for lunch with Tolu. At the thought of Tolu, she squeezed her eyes shut in pleasure. His house, for lunch. It was a big step, it was too early but did she mind? No, she didn’t. She was dangerously in love with him. As soon as she thought about it, Beyonce’s ‘Dangerously in love’ began to play in her head. She sighed once more before getting up to play the song. As soon as the intro began playing through the speakers, she already had jitters all over her body.

‘Baby I love you/you are my life/my happiest moments weren’t complete if you weren’t by my side/you’re my relation and connection to the sun…’ She was floating round the room when her eyes settled on her white crop top and black blazer in her open wardrobe. Still grooving with the melody, she hurried to pick out the clothes. She immediately remembered her faded jean skirt… the one that had the long slit on the side. Once she located it, she smiled to herself. ‘Perfect’ she whispered before picking out her stilettos with the jean material. The blazer would afford her propriety while in church but as soon as she was at Tolu’s place, she planned to show off just a little bit.

‘Isn’t it too much temptation?’ As soon as she had the thought, she realized that she actually wanted to tempt him. For once, she wanted to be a little bit bad. She looked up and said a little apology to the Almighty for choosing a Sunday of all days. When she opened her eyes, Destiny’s child’s ‘Nasty girl’ started blasting through the speakers ‘Nasty, put some clothes on I’ve told ya..’  Amaka laughed out loud and looked up at the ceiling. It couldn’t just be a coincidence, could it. Still looking up, she said ‘I deserve it, I know’ before she joined the ladies on her speaker in singing the words even louder.
